Residential Parking and County Snow Removal

Our homeowners' association has received questions regarding the legality of parking on our streets overnight or at other times that would interfere with snow removal. Ottawa County Road Commission responded to our inquiry with the following information.

The Road Commission is NOT an enforcement agency.

Parking on Shoulder of Road – General

    • Parking is allowed on the shoulder of any road unless it’s posted “No Parking” by the Police or Township Ordinance. 

Parking on Shoulder of Road – Winter Maintenance 

    • To provide winter roadway safety to the traveling public in the most reasonable, efficient and effective manner, we ask the cooperation of the public in removing vehicles from the road during snow removal operations.  Please park your vehicles in your driveways, off the road, and not at the dead-end of cul-de-sacs. Parked cars that hinder our snow removal operations may subject your vehicle to being towed at the owner’s expense.
